🥂🥂🥂 New Sparkly! 🥂🥂🥂

It’s here! Our first ever homegrown fizz! Elegant, dry and delicious. Perfect for a summer garden. And you can buy it  online with FREE DELIVERY UK mainland wide, for cases of 6 or more, or in our mixed tasting cases. Traditional method, bottle fermented Sparkling Old Vine Kernling. Zero dosage. Aromatic and fruity. A malolactic fermentation has given it more mouth feel and taken the edge off the steely acidity. 8 months on the lees has given a light biscuity background note. It’s 100% Kernling grape. Kernling is a Riesling crossing with a lot of Riesling character, the pink clone of better-known, white Kerner. Check  it out HERE>>

It’s been so lovely to welcome visitors back to Oatley. Still one party at a time at the moment, booked in advance online. People seem to be loving our “Do it Yourself “ tastings, where you book a slot and buy a box of 3 wines, chilled and boxed ready for you with self guide leaflets and a table in the vineyard. Here’s a photo from yesterday of Lucy and friends wandering down after meeting up here and combining a DIY tasting with a picnic. You are very welcome to bring or order in a picnic, though we are not supplying them ourselves (yet). Maybe something for the future?

NEW: From now on we are also open for cellar door sales and wines by the glass on Saturdays, 10.30 - 12.30. You can just rock up. No appointment needed. Pay by card/contactless or via QR code.

A couple of weeks back we had the excitement of a wedding reception here. No, we’re not going into the wedding business, but Craig and Camilla needed a COVID secure outside venue for their limited-number reception and Oatley seemed up to the job.

Meanwhile work has moved on apace with Ned and Paula’s new planting at the top of the vineyard field. The vines are in. Pinot Noir, a burgundy clone at the top of the slope where it’s warmer, and a Champagne clone at the bottom. Hand planted. Just budding now. The trellis will go in later in the year. On the wine front, as well as the new fizz we now have the 2020 Leonora’s back from the winery, and alongside the quaffable  “Jane’s” 2019 it is already one of our mainstream wines. More balanced than the 2018, which is still a little young and a bit fresh for some tastes, it is ready for drinking now. We have sadly nearly sold out of the silver medal Jane’s 18 which has been our mainstay for a while but the 19 is drinking well. As a new customer, James,  who works in the trade put it yesterday, “...good acidity, and I note the elderflower and stone fruits. It reminds me of a Gavi de Gavi (although completely different grape and country)”. They’re all there in our Online Shop with free UK mainland delivery for 6 or more, including mixed sixes.
