The beautiful Quantock villages of Over Stowey and Nether Stowey with the National Trust-run Coleridge Cottage>> where the writing of “Kubla Khan” was famously interrupted by the Person from Porlock. (4 miles west).

Steart Marshes nature reserve >> - internationally important birdwatching site, beautiful, peaceful coastal saltmarsh landscapes, walking, cycling, bridle paths (4.5 miles northeast)
The Quantock Hills - Area of Outstanding National Beauty >>, breathtaking views and varied forest, hill and moorland walks on a manageable scale: walking, mountain biking, riding and other outdoor activities. Just lovely. (5 miles southwest)
Kilve Beach >> No sand but completely unspoilt, dog-friendly, great views and amazing geology and fossils - and just a few hundred yards back from the beach, the Chantry tea rooms >> (10 miles west)
Music on the Quantocks >> Amazing, international-level mostly classical or sometimes jazz music in tiny, postcard-pretty Broomfield Village Hall and local churches and country house gardens. Blackmore Farm, Cannington (1.5 miles) 15th Century, Grade 1 Listed Manor House, self-catering and bed & breakfast accommodation. Winner of the AA award for best guest accommodation in England 2011-12. Farm shop.
Gurney Manor Mill, Cannington (2 miles) 16C Water Mill with attached barns and buildings converted to a comfortable and atmospheric B&B. Just beyond Gurney Manor itself (see below).
The Old Cider House, Nether Stowey (3 miles), dog-friendly bed and breakfast accommodation in picturesque Nether Stowey, within a mile of Quantock Hills walking country and mountain bike trails.
Parsonage Farm, Over Stowey (3 miles) a traditional 17th century farmhouse and smallholding with log fires, delicious meals, and beautiful gardens.
Gurney Manor, Cannington (2 miles): Self catering, sleeps 9, good place for a group. Landmark Trust medieval manor with its own walled garden next to the river on the edge of Cannington, filled with ancient architectural detail and with an intriguing history to unravel.

Stogursey Castle (4 miles - or 2.5 by footpath). Landmark Trust restored moated castle gatehouse with back garden enclosed by ruined 11th C castle walls. Historic, romantic hideaway for 2-4, self-catering.
